Remarks

Baghdadi paper replaced the silk and linen papers of China and Samarkand. It was innovated by using more readily available local materials such as fibers, cotton, hemp, and old rags (p. 17). By the end of the 2nd century AH, Baghdad had more than a hundred paper shops (p. 16).
