Preparation Steps

The pigment Zinjafur (Cinnabar) is described as a mineral resulting from the union of mercury and sulfur (p. 96). The process involves taking the substance and grinding it excessively for two or three days. It is then re-ground until it is 'dead' (stabilized), placed in a vessel, submerged in water, washed, and left to dry (p. 96).

Evidence

Remarks

The manuscript describes this as the first 'Face' (Wajh) of prepared red colorants. The author notes that this produces a bright red powder (p. 96).
