Remarks

The text describes the material of the treatise as folios (waraqa) from 15th-century manuscripts. The primary witnesses used for the edition are a British Library manuscript (folios 37b, 39b) and a Leiden/Holland manuscript (folio 1a). The author, Al-Zarkhuri, was Egyptian ('al-Misri') and completed the work in approximately 1453 AD (p. 50). While the text describes mechanical inventions, the manuscript itself serves as a representative sample of paper usage in Mamluk Egypt for technical treatises. (p. 38, 40, 50)
