In the 1847 Hasani Press Qur'an, red ink was added manually to the printed pages. This rubrication was used for elaborate ornamented headpieces, surah headings (often set against a black background), verse markers, and the letter fā used for marginal references (p. 156).

"The double opening pages display elaborate ornamented headpieces, with red ink coloring added by hand. Handcoloring was also used for the surah headings (red on black background), verse markers, and the letter fā inserted in the text to reference the marginal notes."

Remarks

The red ink was applied by hand to enhance monochrome lithographs, emulating the manuscript tradition of rubrication. This specific edition used 11 lines per page and featured interlinear Urdu translations set in framed panels (p. 156).
