"Tin was identified in a Persian manuscript from the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, made in Kashmir in 1505... Analysis shows, however, that the only metal used here is tin, and it can only be supposed that some undetected organic element has been added and that it subsequently blackened."

The tin was used to depict water in this manuscript. Although tin is usually bright and un-blackened, this specific sample blackened, possibly due to undetected organic additives (p. 270).
