Remarks
Oil soot is a carbon-based pigment used in the production of hibr. In mixed ink formulations, its high optical density often masks the presence of plant-based tannins or iron gall components when analyzed with standard NIR or UV reflectography (p. 151). Its physical position on the surface of the ink layer is critical for interpretative analysis (p. 151).
