Remarks

The 1367-8 copy of the Dīvān-i Kabīr (Dīvān) commissioned by Sharaf al-Dīn Sātī contains silver illumination (p. 270, 277). The author posits that the use of silver may indicate the migration of artists from neighbouring regions like eastern Rūm or the Jazira, bringing skills and motifs connected to Ilkhanid arts of the book (p. 269, 278). The presence of this pigment raises possibilities for production in Armenian-dominated settings like Erzincan or the Lake Van area (p. 270). While codicological analysis confirms the presence of silver, the author notes that high-precision chemical composition analysis would yield further insights into the specific production processes (p. 281).
