The paper describes the production of printed materials at the Mission Press, including a 'Malay quarterly pamphlet' (Cermin Mata) and 'schoolbooks and teaching materials' (p. 194, 195). Additionally, traditional manuscript copying on paper continued alongside printing; for example, Rajab's hand-copied versions of Hikayat Indraputra were under 300 pages, whereas another version recorded by van der Tuuk contained 518 pages (p. 195-196).

"At least two copies of Hikayat Indraputra giving the day of finishing the text (but unfortunately not the year!) has been identified as copied by Rajab. One is kept in the Leiden University Library, the other is preserved in the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris."

Remarks

The Mission Press also engaged in 'Book-binding' as part of its industrial classes (p. 201). Paper materials from this press were widely distributed to mission and governmental schools, reaching royal and aristocratic elites in Johor and Kedah (p. 199). Some of these physical specimens, such as the manuscripts copied by Rajab, are now held in European libraries (p. 195).
