Pigments were applied as watercolors (p. 348). A red ground with black and pink squares is used in square Kufic compositions (p. 350, 361). White pigment outlined in black is used over green grounds (p. 350). Red outlined in ochre or gold appears on black grounds (p. 350). Gray paint is used for rendering craggy outcrops of stone in landscapes (p. 353).

Remarks

The green pigment used in the square Kufic borders (Section 18 and 21) is explicitly described as corrosive, leading to severe damage and 'significant losses' in the paper support (p. 354, 356). The palette shifts between sections, utilizing red on green, black on pink, and pink on green for complex geometric compositions (p. 361).
