"IES 274... manuscript was copied by Abū Bakr b. šayḫ Dadab b. šayḫ Ḧayr b. ‘Umar b. Ģamāl al-Bakrī... between ṣafar and Friday 6th of ramaḍān 1254 (= 23 November 1838; colophon 36v and 176r)."
Remarks
The scribe, Abū Bakr, was a member of the learned al-Quṩbī Somali clan (Aw Quddub) living in Harar. This clan boasts a genealogy back to Abū Bakr, the first caliph of Islam, and is a Somali-speaking holy lineage group that lives off teaching (p. 163).
