Paste-paper boards were constructed by laminating sheets of paper, often recycled wastepaper, using an adhesive to create a core for the binding boards (p. 184).

Evidence

"Usually, the boards were made of paste-paper and when the core material is accessible, it appears that often wastepaper was used."

Remarks

A group of approximately 50 manuscripts from the early 16th to 17th centuries utilized extremely thin boards made of this material (p. 184). The text distinguishes this from 'papier-mâché', preferring the term 'paste-paper' for laminated sheets (p. 182).
