Remarks

The anthology Al-Durr al-maṣūn, also known by the alternative title Siḥr al-ʿuyūn, was compiled by al-Badrī between 1487 and 1488 (p. 89). This work is characterized as a synthesis of ophthalmological observations and poetry, emulating earlier works like al-Ṣafadī’s Ṣarf al-ʿayn (p. 89). It contains medical information alongside fables, prophetic hadith, and legal debates concerning eyes (p. 89). A later 1860 lithograph version printed in Cairo is also mentioned in the bibliography (p. 71).
