The substrate consists of paper clay porcelain, which was prepared for 3D printing and slip-casting (p. 113, 116). For 3D printing, various consistencies of clay pastes were prepared, following Jonathan Keep's instructions involving adding water and mixing with a fork before pressing through a strainer (p. 115).

"The 3D geometric tile was slip-cast before with paper clay porcelain using the mould I had made previously (Figs. 67& 68, left)."

Remarks

In the creative practice, paper porcelain was fired up to 1260 º C (p. 123). An accidental discovery during firing showed that when porcelain was bent, it created a 'natural curve' that the author utilized for installation work (p. 119, Fig. 81). This material allows for both traditional slip-casting and modern 3D printing techniques (Section 3.4).
