"The main seat of this industry was in the Delta, to be precise, in the small town of Bura, a place on the coast in the district of Damiette. Here the papyrus plant that probably grew in plenty in the nearby Menzaleh Lake, was processed and offered in the market."
Remarks
The Arabs referred to the plant as 'Fafur' and the manufactured product as 'Kirtas' (p. 162). Egypt was the primary source of supply for both the Byzantine empire and the Occident.
