"إذا جف الجلد احتجت أن تمسح الكتاب بالسيف ويسمى المسح ، وذلك أن تدع الكتاب بين يديك ، ومن الصناع من يعمل ما أصف : وهو أن تأخذ مسطرة فتضعها على طرف الكتاب وتحك وسطه بخفة"

Remarks

This section describes 'Al-Mas-h' (polishing), a finishing technique for written texts or bindings. Once the leather has dried, the 'Kitab' (book or text) is polished using a sword or a ruler to achieve a specific sheen or smoothness (p. 166). The index (p. 167-170) lists several calligraphic styles that utilize such inks and finishing techniques, including Thuluth, Kufic, and Sijillat.
