Evidence

"shell silver (now tarnished) was used to depict the reflections off the water’s surface. ... although it is now tarnished, a sense of the silver’s original evanescent appearance can be evoked through 'digital restoration'"

Remarks

Found in the Hours of Louis XII (2003.105). Used by Jean Bourdichon to depict water reflections. The material is currently tarnished, appearing dark, but would have originally provided a reflective, metallic surface (p. 108).
