Gold was used in most cases along with saffron dye (p. 294). Two methods were used to alter its luster: 1) combining it with other materials like saffron, silver, or orpiment; 2) 'raw or baked gold' was created by rubbing the surface with marble to adjust the polish (p. 294). First sub-colour combinations include: gold + silver, gold + orpiment, and gold + silver + orpiment (p. 294).
