The charcoal was recovered from grey to white ashy layers within a midden context in drainage channel DR-2 (p. 225). This midden is located in a potential outdoor area and includes reddish and brown soft deposits, as well as a fire installation lined by a silty ridge (p. 225, 227). Samples were processed using multi-element analysis (ICP-OES) and carbon analyzers (TC/TN/TIC) to identify anthropogenic signatures (p. 225).

Remarks

The presence of charcoal within ashy layers is used as a marker for human activity and site formation processes (p. 225). Geochemical sediment analysis indicated high portions of available phosphates (rising from 36.4 % to 63.8 %) at the fire installation level, indicating intensive use of refuse and organic waste (p. 227). High-resolution mapping and sampling were used as archaeological tools to trace these materialisations (p. 219).
