Original Recipe Text

Identified as an organic dye of insect origin. Phosphorus presence indicates metabolic processes of insects rather than plants (p. 6).

Evidence

"Raman spectrum acquired from this pigment at 532 nm excitation exhibit indicator signals at 1643, 1476, 1316, 1220 and 1104 cm−1, which match the main Raman bands of cochineal-based pigments."

Remarks

In UVFC, the ink appeared green, which is characteristic of cochineal when processed with UVL and IR (p. 12). Used in parts of the Quranic text (p. 2).
