Take 1 ounce of Ammoniacum (al-Washaq), 1 ounce of Benzoin/Lac (al-Lakk al-Jawi), half an ounce of al-Qana (likely a gum resin), 10 dirhams of pitch (al-Zift), and 5 dirhams of pure mastic. Cook them over a gentle fire until all are melted together. Gather the mixture on a heavy marble slab or an anvil and strike it firmly with a hammer until the components are fully integrated. Return it to the fire, then remove it and shape it into small discs (p. 132).
