"the Andalusian al-Qalalūsī also introduces the dialectal name of a plant to obtain a red pigment: the riǧl al-ḥamām, (‘leg of the dove’), to indicate the Anchusa tinctoria L. (p. 117)."
Remarks
Al-Qalalūsī (d. 1307) was an authority in Arabic language and a poet who dedicated his work to a Nasrid chancellor (p. 111). This plant-based pigment use is not mentioned in other treatises (p. 117).
