Detailed firing profiles are provided on page 289. The first profile shows the process starting at 10:55 a.m. with 'dampers open'. At 70 mbar/min (approx 800-900C), 'dampers Close and open / 5 min' for reduction cycles. This is followed by 'close damper and eye hole' and turning off gas, with a 2-hour wait period. A second profile (p. 289) starts at 10:07 a.m., reaching a 'dull red' state before 3 circles of closing/opening dampers for 5 minutes, followed by turning off the gas and closing the dampers and eye hole for 2 hours.

Remarks

Successful reduction lustre tests were performed on white earthenware and terracotta bases with the assistance of Ben Brierley (p. 307). The lustre is applied to the 'hybrid Nasrid birds wing' components of ceramic vases (p. 303-304).
