Remarks

The manuscript confuses the boundary between aesthetic care and informal execution. The scribe used an anglicana hand formal enough to be classed as anglicana formata, but the pages were not ruled, leading to lopsided text (p. 102). Titles were sometimes written in a larger, more formal display script (bastard anglicana), such as for 'Oyle of Castor' (p. 102). The shift in ink appearance serves as evidence that the manuscript was copied in distinct sessions or stints (p. 102, fn 80).
