In instances where gallnuts (عفص) are unavailable, pomegranate skins (قشور الرمان) mixed with myrobalan (إهليلج) are used as an alternative tannin source. This mixture is combined with lampblack (سخام) obtained from lamps or cooking stoves (p. 152).
