The use of pigments is tied to the functional markers in the text. Verse markers (Aya) consist of three circles with a red contour and yellow filling (p. 297). Five-verse markers (Kumsa) use black contours with red filling and a yellow dot (p. 297). Hizbi (60th part) markers are large extra-textual markers with concentric circles filled with red, yellow, and green designs (p. 297).

Remarks

Colors are noted as being particularly bright in some 20th-century manuscripts (p. 301). Some printed editions by Sharif Bala Zaitawa featured a unique 'teal green tonality' (p. 306). The markers like subu’i and rubu’i are often the most colorful elements, featuring rectangular designs (zayyana) with interweaving patterns in various colors (p. 298).
