Remarks
Lacquer varnish, originally used in China, was employed in Iran, Turkey and India from the 9/15th to the 13/19th centuries. Most surviving specimens come from the Qajar period. Apart from bookbinding, lacquer was used for making penboxes (p. 138-139).
