The Qazvin painter created pink and purple tones by using pure cochineal or a unique combination of cochineal mixed with an organic yellow dye (p. 278). This specific mixture is an exclusive marker for the Qazvin school in this study (p. 278).

Evidence

"And in Qazvin, cochineal and cochineal + yellow dye is the only colour materials that have been used to create pink and purple tones (Fig. 5-187). Among these, the colour combination of cochineal + yellow dye has not been seen in any of the other paintings except Qazvin paintings."

Remarks

In other schools like Herat or Shiraz, combinations such as red lead + white lead or Indian lac were more common for these tonalities (p. 277-278).
