Azurite was used independently as a blue pigment exclusively in the Herat school (p. 274, 287). It is categorized as a second main color material alongside indigo, whereas ultramarine remained the first main color used across all schools (p. 287).

Remarks

While ultramarine was the common choice across Persian manuscripts, the specific selection of azurite is a regional marker for Herat in this study (p. 287).
