Silver was used to paint metallic objects such as swords, armour, shields, and environmental features like streams (p. 239). It was often added to gold to reduce costs or achieve specific tonalities (p. 239).

Evidence

"Silver is another metal pigment that has been used in various styles of painting in Shiraz. As mentioned before, the silver used in the manuscript is now seen as dark grey due to corrosion (Fig. 5-138)."

Remarks

Inju style painters did not use grey tones, but Timurid and Turkman painters made extensive use of silver, which has since corroded to dark grey (p. 239).
