azurite

Herat
15th Century
Recipe Details

Ingredients

azurite

Evidence

"Like Painter A, this painter has used azurite in several cases in addition to ultramarine to create blue (two blue spots were analysed), which is interesting in its kind (Tab. 5-55)."

Remarks

Azurite was used specifically for tree trunks by Painter G (p. 218). This is noted as interesting because ultramarine was the more common blue pigment in this manuscript (RAS 239).
