A mixture of orpiment with a small quantity of gold. The resulting color is a bright, faint yellow that lacks the typical metallic luster of pure gold pigments (p. 218).

Evidence

"It should be noted that this painter used a combination of orpiment with a small amount of gold to create a bright yellow colour for the background (only one yellow spot were analysed). To figure out the use of gold for this colour combination because of higher amount of orpiment have been used, the created yellow colour has no metallic luster and is seen as a faint yellow (Fig. 5-116)."

Remarks

The researcher notes that the gold is difficult to detect visually due to the dominance of orpiment (p. 218).
