A specific mixture of red ocher and red lead was prepared to achieve a dark brownish-grey tone for demonic figures on folio 11 (p. 170). More generally, red ocher was used for architecture and tree trunks on folios 14, 15, 22, and 25 (p. 166, Tab. 5-31).

Evidence

"Also, in folio 11 to create a dark brownish-grey hue for colouring one of the demons has been used a combination of red ocher pigment with red lead (Fig. 5-73)."

Remarks

The painter combined these pigments to achieve specific desired tonalities. Red lead was also used independently for orange colors (p. 166).
