In manuscript AKM 5, ultramarine serves as the exclusive blue pigment (p. 133). It is also found in mixtures for grey tonalities when combined with white lead (p. 133, Figure 5-41). For purple tones, it is combined with cinnabar (p. 133).

Evidence

"From the point of view of statistical analysis, ultramarine is the only blue colour used in this manuscript."

Remarks

The manuscript is an example of the Turkman school of Shiraz dated 1494 CE (p. 133). Statistical analysis shows it lacks the higher complexity of blue mixtures found in later manuscripts, relying solely on ultramarine for blue shades.
