Following traditional recipes from Golzār-e ဠafā, four grams of dried mallow flowers were placed in 250 ml of room temperature water for one day. The mixture was filtered, and traditional paper was immersed in the resulting solution for 24 hours to obtain the reference samples (p. 76).

"Some trials were therefore performed in order to prepare the dyed paper samples, always employing four grams of dried mallow flowers put in 250 ml of water room temperature for one day then filtering... reference samples were obtained by immersing the traditional paper for 24 hours into the solution obtained."

Remarks

Mallow was primarily used as a softener in Islamic Bibliopegy to make paper soft and smooth, allowing ink to be laid more easily. It was often mixed with pigments like cinnabar or used for sizing, though it can also impart a light violet hue to paper (p. 75).
