Remarks

In MS Ashmole 1443, a recipe for 'the stone' (p. 11 of the manuscript) contains an attribution that appears to have been added later. The author notes a larger gap between words and a 'slightly different colour' of ink for the portion 'The which...lothbery', suggesting a secondary phase of verification or authorization (p. 53). The manuscript also contains 'showy rubricated references' (p. 44) and phrases like 'And truly y haue preuyd' in rubric (p. 42).
