"Although the recipes in the collection are all copied on one quire... they are copied with different inks and nibs. This indicates that they were written in several stints."

Remarks

The quire (pp. 57–80) of MS Ashmole 1438 shows that while the recipes appear as a single collection, the use of 'different inks and nibs' proves the scribe worked in several stints over time (p. 39). Linguistic analysis links the orthography of this scribe to Lincolnshire (p. 38).
