Remarks

The Quran (Ascension number 4604) features extensive use of gold for both the headers and the framing. The knotwork frame is described as enclosing both the header and the main text block (p. 86). Ahmad al-Mutatabib is credited with introducing these innovations to Cairo in the early 14th century (p. 86).
