The objects represent ceramic production from Kashan in the 13th century. Pigments were applied to the surface of earthenware, which was also carved or moulded. The author observed these surfaces in the examination room using tools like rulers and magnifying glasses to discuss assembly and decoration (p. 12-13).

Remarks

The author noted the 'oxidized appearances' of the painted surfaces, suggesting environmental or material aging (p. 13). These were retrieved from storage for inclusion in the survey of Islamic art (p. 12).
