Remarks

In BL MS Additional 19674, the scribe utilized a 'neat secretary hand' for the main medical text and recipes, but employed a 'larger, bolder' version of the ink or script for the 'display script' headings (p. 209). The author notes that while 'no colour or fancy decoration' was used in this collection, 'care has clearly been taken over the appearance and design' through this hierarchy of script and the deliberate inclusion of 'plenty of space for annotation' around the text (p. 209).
