Remarks

The ink is used for primary outlines of figures in a battle scene (Fig. I.1). The technique is described as having an 'unusual' simplicity (p. 12). The lines define severed heads and amputated limbs against a blank background, intended to create a sense of physical immediacy and focus on the impression of physicality (p. 15).
