Dluwang paper, a traditional Southeast Asian product, was used for the doublures and endpapers of manuscripts. In some cases, textblocks printed in Istanbul were brought to Indonesia (perhaps by a Haji) and bound using local materials like dluwang and secondary endbands with fringes (p. 209).

Remarks

The occurrence of dluwang in a manuscript with an Istanbul textblock illustrates the divergence between the place of printing and the place of binding, assisting in establishing provenance (p. 209). The binding also features a twig or reed core in the endband (p. 209, Fig 202).
