Remarks

The manuscript, known as the Vanaratna Codex (Hodgson MS 35), serves as an autograph by the 15th-century scholar Vanaratna. Analysis of the text reveals that original references to Vanaratna's origin and his connections to Tibet were intentionally erased and replaced by a second, Nepalese hand to disguise his Tibetan lineage (p. 393). Although multi-spectral imaging was employed to recover the primary text, some erasures were too deep to allow for the recovery of the original ink traces (p. 393).
