"Five glasses were found to be opacified with white crystalline tin oxide: the middle white layer in the cameo fragment and four multicolored beads (Table 1, no. 8). The tin content is rather low in these glasses, with tin oxide ranging from about one percent to about eight percent in one of the beads."
Remarks
Tin oxide was used not only for white opacity but also as a component in yellow and green opaque glasses. In the cameo glass fragment, the white layer is opacified with tin oxide, while the yellow and green beads analyzed contain lead-tin yellow (p. 131).
