"The Prophet’s face is veiled, and all members of his family have flame halos around their heads. To the left of the Prophet, at the base of the pulpit, is seated an older male adult dwarf. His age is conveyed by his white moustache and beard."

Remarks

This entry describes the pigments and imagery in a late 10th/16th-century Ottoman miniature painting titled 'Prophet Muḥammad Preaching' (p. 103-104). The pigments are discussed in terms of their visual representation of specific figures and features: 'flame halos' denote sanctity, and 'white' is used for the facial hair of a dwarf figure to indicate age (p. 103).
