Remarks

The production of documents (وثائق) and manuscripts was a widespread occupation in 13th and 14th century Najd. Scribes like Muhammad bin Abdullah al-Fakhri (d. late 14th century AH) left behind numerous physical examples of their work, which the author describes as legible and clear (p. 308). The text contrasts the individual copying efforts of 'students of knowledge' with 'modern publishing houses' (p. 310).
