Remarks

Chapter One focuses on the monumental Mas̲navī-i Maʿnavī of Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī and a very small Qur’an produced in Konya in 1278 (p. 65). The author uses calligraphic terms like 'naskh' and 'tawqīʿ' as they are currently understood in the wider field while acknowledging their imperfection (p. 63). Codicology is defined as the study of the material aspects of books, where scripts and ink are core components for physical observation (p. 57).
