old lapis lazuli, water, honey water, gum, fish glue

Preparation Steps

Take good, old lapis lazuli. Grind it with water on a slab. Then collect it in a glass vessel and pour honey water over it. Then leave it for an hour or two until the lapis lazuli settles at the bottom of the vessel. Then strain the water from it and pour fresh honey water over it. Stir it and leave it for an hour until it settles, then strain that water. Do this three times until no sediment remains except the pure [pigment]. Use the gum according to what was mentioned before, or with fish glue.

Remarks
