Take the water of gallnuts, like that used for white ink, and set it aside. Then take Roman cinnabar and wash it. Wash it with water in a vessel and stir it until a foam rises. Remove the foam until nothing remains. Then place it on a brick until its moisture is gone. Grind it until it becomes like an ointment. Then beat it with the gallnut water you set aside for an hour. Then add Arabic gum and dissolve it in the water. Beat it vigorously.
