Preparation Steps
Take gallnuts, crush them into halves or thirds, and take for every measure of gallnuts, nine measures of water. Place it in the hot sun for seven or nine days. Then clarify the water from the gallnuts with a thin cloth. Then take some ground Gum Arabic for every ten dirhams of water, one dirham of gum, and five dirhams of ground vitriol. Dissolve the gum in the water first, then add the vitriol to it. Shake it well and write with it. If you find it has turned to a red color, do not add anything to it; if you find it has turned to green, add more vitriol.
