Take three *uqiyyahs* of gallnuts and eight *uqiyyahs* of Gum Arabic and half an *uqiyyah* of vitriol. Crush the gallnuts and pour eight times their volume of water over them. Soak them for a day and a night, and if it is more, it is better. Then place it over a gentle fire until one-third remains. The sign of its readiness is that you find the gallnuts disintegrated. Then clarify the water from that and boil it before throwing the gum into it like honey. Then throw the gum into the water and boil it until the gum is dissolved. Then clarify it and add the vitriol to it after grinding it. Write with it, God willing.
